In 2017 Global Water supplied and commissioned two 40KL water treatment and pumping systems as part of the $160 million O-Bahn City Access Project. The 670m tunnel was built to improve travel times and reliability for users of the O-Bahn service between the end of the busway at Gilberton and Grenfell Street though the city of Adelaide South Australia, and to reduce traffic congestion and delays, particularly on the Inner Ring Route.
Due to the excavation depth of the tunnel, stormwater ingress and runoff could not drain by traditional gravity systems. Furthermore, wastewater from the firefighting equipment required treatment prior to discharging to any drainage infrastructure.
The treatment and pumping systems were designed in conjunction with WGA Consulting Engineers to collect, detain and treat the stormwater and waste water from the firefighting deluge system within the tunnel and pump it to an SA Water sewer connection approximately 500 metres from the tunnel.
The Global Water scope was designed and delivered with a very short lead time, working closely with McConnell Dowell Australia, the main works contractor for the O-Bahn City Access Project to successfully complete the project on time and on budget at the end of 2017.
